LIFE CHANGING ACCIDENT - PART I

Job changed

My husband was working in the hospitality industry for more than 10 years. After starting our new family about 2 years, we have our first child. As you know if working in the hospitality industry, the down side is, not much time to be with their friends and families (because when everyone celebrating on public holidays or gather on weekends, these people are the one who serve others and their day-off always fall on weekdays.)

One day, I suggested and discussed with him about changing job. As the child getting older, if he still working in the same industry, he may missed out lots of the child's growing milestones, different special events that held at school and the chances of creating precious memories together are so less. He agreed but had his considerations, so we prayed and asked for the guidance of the Lord on making such important decision.

Time passed, and my second child was about two year old. He wanted to have a more stable, regular working time, good paid and reasonable distance job, so that he can have more family time together and also have enough for the normal living expenses. He changed a few jobs and the last one is worked as a casual labourer in the manufactory industry which may involved machineries.

The call

He worked hard at the new place for a few months, so far so good. One day, I received a call from my parents saying that they already booked a flight. They will stay with us a little longer this time and will arrive on a Friday morning. I mentioned it to my husband and we planned to have a dinner somewhere that Friday evening.

Week by week, the date of my parents arrival was near. They said they can manage to go to our place by taking public transport and no need any of us to pick them up at the airport. So, on that Friday afternoon, I happily picked up my elder child from school and was on my way home, suddenly, my mobile rang. I saw the screen it was calling from my husband, I thought it was time when finished his shift and gave me a call to talk about the night out. I answered him like I normally did, but this time, I was wrong.

He told me he was in the hospital and everything needed to cancel....I interrupted his conversation, just calmly asked him how bad was the injury (I was planning for the worst, imagined he may lost a front arm), after he said the word "fingers", I was so relieved (compared to my imagination). We didn't talk much and end the call.

When I backed home, I told my parents what I heard not long ago about their son in law. My husband had a surgery and stayed in the hospital for 3 days.

He told me what had happened on that day after discharged from hospital when at home.

That Friday, my husband was assigned to an area that needed to teamwork with the other. The task for them was, the other operates the machine and he do the labour work. It is what my husband said: "I did a first test on a cylinder top with a socket well and sent for a test as usual. The test result came back failed, so I went back to inform the permanent staff who monitor the system and the section at that time to do a second test together. After I was putting back the cylinder top back into the projection well for the second test, the normal practice or procedure that I have been taught since joining this workplace, is to have the socket in before any testing begin. So I put a new socket in accordance to the standard procedure, which only take me five seconds and can complete such easy but important simple task nicely.

The Five Seconds

When I am going to put the new socket into the machine which is in the Still Mode, by the time, that staff was standing just a meter away from me, had turned his back towards me because he was setting the program. While I am going to put the socket, without any verbal notification nor by visual inspection, to check whether I was safely removed my hand away from the machine or not but knowing that I am going to put the socket for the re-test. He bleached the duty of care that he turned on the testing switch suddenly. And for that switch to turn on, it needs a key to insert into the switch key hole and turns it to "On" for safety reason. In other words, without inserting that key and with the motion of turning the switch to "On", the switch will not turned on, so the machine is keeping in Still Mode. I found these keys always being inserted at this workplace...

When I am putting the socket, I feel an intense sharp pain within seconds. I found my right hand was caught and compressed by the projection welding machine, I screamed out very loud spontaneously. Up to that moment, the staff who was teaming up with me then turned his face towards me and asked me am I alright. He released his hand off the key naturally, so I can take my hand off and away from the machine. I tried to take off the protective working glove straight after. When I pull off my glove, I was horrified by the scene. I felt unreal and was in great shock of the fact that I could see the bone of my middle finger and its surroundings are damaged terribly from this messy wounds. The blood was flowing actively on my right hand, my middle finger was pierced through and caused a big hole as big as a ten cents. Together with a large laceration badly stretching from the top of the second digit of my middle finger extended to the bottom of the third digit with an approximation of four to five centimeters long. Besides, the index finger of my right hand was suffered a deep cut as well."

Personal Reflection:

For we are created in the image of God. Even though both of our physical and spiritual needs are important to Him, but what concerns Him most is our spiritual welfare because our souls are priceless. He treats our souls as His own because they are redeemed by Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son and through Christ, we are God's children.

Thank you, our Heavenly Father, for You are most worth Praise and Glory. You are slow in anger and abounding in love. You teach us and close to us when we feel we were getting left behind of this world. "If you had been of the world, the world would love its own: but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you."

Yes, I remember what You have told us through Jesus. And I think of the lyric "be not afraid, I go before you always, come follow me and I will give you rest." how sweet and comforting it is. Jesus and Mary, thank you for setting the examples for us while you were on earth.

Always feel grateful and find those sufferings, mistakes, or any difficulties be a present or opportunities from God, because all these trials merely to show how much you love Him, have hope in Him and trust in Him, have faith, my dear readers. So that, at the appropriate place and time (only God knows, just be patience), He will reveal His Holy Will for you. Those trials are the "packaging" of His "present". Once we struggle through and overcome them, we will discover what is inside the "present" ie. graces, blessings, merits, answers He wants to give or where He wants to lead us. He always want to give us surprise! Somethings that is most appropriate and in the best interest for us. And He likes to see how we react when "unboxing" the presents He gave, which is the same when you watched your loved ones unboxing the present you wholeheartedly prepared for them. God knows what we need and when to use them (the present).

Blessed be God forever.
